HMV workers appear to take over Twitter account amid layoffs

Workers at the troubled UK entertainment store HMV appear to have taken over the company’s Twitter account to announce layoffs, The Independent reports.

It’s not clear whether the account had been hijacked from the outside and within 20 minutes of the first tweet, all had been deleted. The company has declined to comment on the tweets.

HMV’s joint administrators confirmed that 190 layoffs have been made across the head office and distribution network, but added that there have been none in stores.

More than 800 homes flooded after storms hit the UK

The Telegraph: 816 houses have been damaged by high floodwater in the UK, according to the Environment Agency. Devon and Cornwall are among the worst-affected areas, along with the historic town of Malmesbury.

There are some 260 flood alerts in England and Wales. More than 200 other flood warnings are in place across England. Two people have died so far in the storms.

New Banksy graffiti appears on London street

The Telegraph: A new piece of street art purporting to be from the elusive graffiti artist Banksy has appeared on a London street. The stencil of a small boy sewing Union Jack bunting is being interpreted as comment on the Queen’s impending Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
