A federal law enforcement source tells the AP that one shooter at the Washington Navy Yard has died.
3 gunshot victims have been brought to Washington Hospital Center. All are alert and responsive with severe injuries, a hospital spokesperson said. She said their conditions are critical. The 1st victim is the DC police officer; he was shot multiple times in the legs and is currently in surgery. The 2nd victim was shot in the shoulder. The 3rd was shot in the head and hand.

Update: Man charged in Houston, Texas, shootings

AP:

A 22-year-old man has been charged in the shootings at a Houston-area community college campus that left him and two others wounded.

A statement from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office identifies the suspect as Carlton Berry. Spokesman Alan Bernstein says Berry is charged with aggravated assault but remains hospitalized with wounds suffered in the shooting.

Sherrif: Student shoots 2 at California high school

NBC News: A high school teacher and a campus supervisor talked a student into surrendering after he opened fire in a classroom, wounding a classmate at a California school, police say. The shooter hit a 16-year-old student and missed firing on another student, police say. The wounded victim was airlifted to the hospital and remains in critical, but stable, condition.

The teacher, who has not been identified, received a pellet wound, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood says.

2 firefighters shot and killed in New York state

Update, 12:25 pm ET - The gunman who ambushed the volunteer firefighters is dead, authorities say. More from AP.

News 10 NBC: Four firefighters were shot — two of them were killed — after responding to a fire in Webster, New York, early Monday. The other two firefighters are at the hospital being treated for their injuries.

Emergency crews were initially called to the area around 6 a.m. to respond reports of a structure fire. As the firefighters arrived, there was gunfire. Authorities say there is no active search for a shooter right now. Neighbors have been evacuated.

Dick’s Sporting Goods suspends sale of certain semi-automatics

CNN:

Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.


The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting “during this time of national mourning,” the store said in a statement Tuesday morning.

Connecticut state police confirmed in an afternoon press conference that 26 people have been killed in today’s shooting at an elementary school, plus the shooter.

Twenty of the deceased are children, six are adults. One person was injured. Police say the shooting took place in one section of the school.

BREAKING: An official with knowledge of the shooting at a Connecticut elementary school says 27 people are dead, including 18 children, The Associated Press reports.

Shooting at Connecticut elementary school

UPDATE (11:31 a.m. EST): A gunman has been killed in the shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, a state official tells NBC New York.

UPDATE (11:19 a.m. EST): Students and faculty are being evacuated from the elementary school where a shooting was reported.

A spokesperson for Danbury Hospital said it received three patients from the scene, but would not give details on their condition, NBC Connecticut reports.

BREAKING (11:07 a.m. EST): State police are responding to reports of a shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

Oregon mall shooting suspect acted alone, police say

Officials have identified the suspect in yesterday’s mall shooting in Oregon as 22-year-old Jacob Tyler Roberts. In a briefing today, Sheriff Craig Roberts said Roberts was armed with a semi-automatic rifle that had been stolen from a person Roberts knew.

Officials believe Roberts died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and that he acted alone. More updates on BreakingNews.com.

Suspect arrested in Downey, Calif., shooting spree that killed 3; motive unclear

Police in Downey, California, have arrested a man and booked him on suspicion of killing three people and wounding two others in a shooting rampage this week.

The man, who was taken into custody Thursday and questioned, was formally booked Friday. Police are still trying to determine a motive for the shootings. A city councilman had said the attack was a drug-related hit; however, the family targeted described the shooting as a violent car robber.

Theater shooting suspect makes 1st courtroom appearance

The hearing was held to advise Holmes, who is also accused of wounding 58 others early Friday, of his rights. The judge has set a hearing on formal charges for next Monday.
