US Navy warship reaches sick child in the Pacific
AP: A US Navy warship is assisting in the rescue of a sick 1-year-old girl on a yacht off the coast of Mexico after her parents called for help.  A rescue operation involving the transfer of the child from the yacht to the USS Vandegrift, an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is expected to begin within hours after 4 rescuers from the California Air National Guard parachuted into the water to reach the vessel.

US Navy warship reaches sick child in the Pacific

AP: A US Navy warship is assisting in the rescue of a sick 1-year-old girl on a yacht off the coast of Mexico after her parents called for help.

A rescue operation involving the transfer of the child from the yacht to the USS Vandegrift, an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is expected to begin within hours after 4 rescuers from the California Air National Guard parachuted into the water to reach the vessel.

2 missing after hot air balloon falls into ocean

AP: A hot-air tourist balloon carrying seven in Peru has fallen into the Pacific Ocean. Authorities say they have rescued five women; the craft’s pilot and another man remain missing.

None of the people on the flight were wearing life jackets, according to an official. Authorities say the women survived because they remained in the balloon’s basket, which floated in the water.

Dock apparently from Japan tsunami washes ashore on US beach

AP: A dock that apparently was ripped away from Japanese waters by a tsunami and drifted for more than a year-and-a-half across 5,000 miles of the Pacific washed ashore on a remote beach between La Push and the Hoh River on the northwest tip of Washington.

Mass of volcanic rocks discovered off New Zealand coast
A mass of small volcanic rocks nearly the size of Belgium has been discovered floating off the coast of New Zealand.Stretching 250 nautical miles by 30 nautical miles, scientists say the rocks likely spewed up in an eruption by an underwater volcano. A mass of small volcanic rocks nearly the size of Belgium has been discovered floating off the coast of New Zealand.
