New Zealand holds its first same-sex weddings
BBC: New Zealand’s first gay weddings are taking place after the country became first in the Asia-Pacific region to legalize same-sex marriage. Thirty-one same-sex couples plan to marry Monday, according to the Department of Internal Affairs.
The weddings are being held after New Zealand’s parliament passed a bill in April amending the country’s 1955 marriage act.

New Zealand holds its first same-sex weddings

BBC: New Zealand’s first gay weddings are taking place after the country became first in the Asia-Pacific region to legalize same-sex marriage. Thirty-one same-sex couples plan to marry Monday, according to the Department of Internal Affairs.

The weddings are being held after New Zealand’s parliament passed a bill in April amending the country’s 1955 marriage act.

Man killed in New Zealand shark attack

BBC: A shark has killed a man off a beach near Auckland, New Zealand. The 47-year-old man was swimming when he was attacked. According to local media reports, police shot at the shark in a bid to rescue the man.

Shark attacks are rare in New Zealand. TVNZ reports only 11 fatal attacks have taken place since records began in 1847. (A total of 44 attacks have been recorded in New Zealand since that time.)

Mass of volcanic rocks discovered off New Zealand coast

A mass of small volcanic rocks nearly the size of Belgium has been discovered floating off the coast of New Zealand.
