Update (8:31 a.m. EDT): Colorado police spokesman revises death toll and says at least 12 dead in movie theater attack, AP reports.
NBC News: Fourteen people were killed and at least 50 others wounded early Friday when a gunman opened fire at a midnight screening of the summer blockbuster ”The Dark Knight Rises” near Denver, authorities and witnesses said.
Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters that 10 people died at the scene and four others died after being taken to local hospitals. A three-month-old and a six-year-old girl were among those treated, according to reports.

Former Rutgers student spared prison in webcam spying case

JUST IN: Former Rutgers student Dharun Ravi has been sentenced to a probationary sentence of 30 days in jail, after being convicted of bias intimidation for using a webcam to see his roommate, Tyler Clementi, and another man kissing days before Clementi committed suicide, The Star-Ledger reports.

The Queen of Disco Donna Summer died this morning in Florida, according to TMZ. She was 63.

Famed hair stylist Vidal Sassoon dead at 84

The Los Angeles Times: Famed hair stylist and fashion icon Vidal Sassoon was found dead at his home in Los Angeles, California, authorities say. Law enforcement sources say Sassoon died after an unspecified illness and that family were by his side. He was 84.

Junior Seau dead, TMZ reports: Authorities are investigating the  43-year-old former NFL star’s death, which was a shooting that may have been self-inflicted. Details still coming in. We’ll keep an eye out.

EDIT: Here’s a local news report on the shooting. According to San Diego’s 10News, a witness reportedly heard about Seau’s death from police.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Australian billionaire mining magnate Clive Palmer has unveiled plans to build the Titanic II.Palmer said his new company Blue Star Line Pty Ltd had commissioned the state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to build a near replica of the ill-fated Titanic in China. The cost is unknown.The ship’s maiden voyage from England to North America is scheduled for late 2016.
