US marks 11th anniversary of Sept. 11 attacks

Thousands are gathered today in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania to mark the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

At Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, only the families of the more than 2,750 people who were killed are reading their names. In previous years, politicians have participated in the reading of the names, or have read from the Bible or recited passages from literature, NBC News reports.

Popular Washington, D.C., bakery Georgetown Cupcakes baked about 6,500 cupcakes to adorn a 2,500 pound model of an M1 Abrams tank, marking the US Army’s 237th birthday today, according to Wired.
