Mars rover confirms 1st drilled Mars rock sample

NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity has relayed new images that confirm it has successfully obtained the first sample ever collected from the interior of a rock on another planet. No rover has ever drilled into a rock beyond Earth and collected a sample from its interior.

NASA’s Curiosity rover has found soil on Mars to be similar to Hawaii’s after sifting and scanning its first sample on the Red Planet.
The robot’s CheMin instrument shook out fine particles of soil and fired X-rays at them to determine their composition.

NASA Mars rover Curiosity snaps 1st color photo of Red Planet

Space.com: NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity has taken its 1st color photo of the planet. The new photo provides a view of the terrain north of the Curiosity rover, and shows the north wall and rim of Gale Crater in the distance, NASA officials said in an image description.
