FDA halts operations at peanut butter plant linked to salmonella outbreak
AP, CBS: The Food and Drug Administration has halted operations at Sunland, Inc., the country’s largest organic peanut butter processor. The FDA decided Monday to crack down on salmonella poisoning for the first time with a new enforcement authority the agency gained in a 2011 food safety law.
Earlier Monday, Sunland had announced it was scheduled to resume peanut processing on Tuesday in the hopes of resuming peanut butter production by the end of the year.
